Book Description
Beckett
I’ve seen the gorgeous redhead with the big black dog that never leaves her side around town. She’s impossible to miss with that lush red hair and perfect green eyes. But it’s when she opens her plump lips and the sound of Ireland comes out of her kissable mouth that I know I’m a goner. I know she’s the one for me and I’ll do whatever it takes to make Skyla Gallagher mine. I can be a patient man and all I want in the world is to worship every bit of her, inside and out.
Skyla
I moved to the lovely town of Bitterroot Valley, Montana because I needed a safe place. I left my life in New York as a prima ballerina after an injury that I never fully healed from, and to escape the obsession of a madman. I adore this new community, but I must admit that Beckett Blackwell is the very best part. I love his kindness, his patience, and his thoughtfulness. But most of all, I can’t get enough of the way he worships my body, and then does everything he can to pamper me afterwards. Beckett is a drug that I’ve become addicted to. But will my stalker find me in Montana, ruining everything we’ve started together, before we have had our chance at forever?

My Thoughts
As a devoted fan of Kristen Proby, it's no secret that I eagerly anticipate each new release, especially those set in the captivating Blackwells of Montana series. "When We Break" is a testament to Proby's mastery of small-town romance, once again offering that comforting "coming home" feeling with its endearing families and rich atmosphere.
This latest installment introduces us to Beckett Blackwell and Skyla Gallagher, a pairing that proved to be an absolute delight. Beckett is immediately smitten by Skyla, the gorgeous redhead with the loyal black dog by her side. Her lush red hair, perfect green eyes, and the melodic sound of Ireland in her voice captivate him. He knows she's the one and is prepared to be patiently persistent, determined to worship every facet of her being.
Skyla, a former prima ballerina, sought refuge in the charming town of Bitterroot Valley, Montana, after a career-ending injury and to escape the unsettling obsession of a stalker in New York. While she cherishes her new community, she quickly finds that Beckett Blackwell is its finest asset. His kindness, patience, and thoughtfulness are irresistible, and she finds herself utterly addicted to his devoted attention and the way he pampers her. The central tension lies in whether her past will catch up to her, threatening the promising future she's building with Beckett.
"When We Break" masterfully bridges the gap between small-town charm and another beloved sub-genre, adding intriguing layers to the narrative. Fun cross-over moments, such as Skyla's book club reading "Dom by SJ Tilly" and the presence of her brooding Irish brother, add unexpected depth and humor.
Beckett's farm, where he showers attention on Skyla and her trusty guard dog, Riley, felt like an instant home. Skyla's dance studio also offers a glimpse into her past life. Despite her past trauma, which makes her resist attention and seek healing, Beckett’s unwavering persistence shines through. He consistently proves himself to be a safe haven and a formidable stronghold, sweeping both Skyla and Riley off their feet. His thoughtful gestures, like purchasing five dog beds for Riley throughout his home, perfectly encapsulate his caring and protective nature. Beckett isn't just a dream to Skyla; he's a true dreamboat who redefines aftercare with his attentive devotion.
This was a truly heartwarming story that I enjoyed from start to finish. While you can certainly dive directly into "When We Break," I believe starting with the first book in the series would enhance your overall experience.
The audiobook is skillfully narrated by Connor Crais and Stephanie Németh-Parker. Their impeccable handling of the various accents added an authentic layer to the performance, making this a genuine joy to listen to.
