My Thoughts
When I was first asked to read this book by the author I was honored. The description sounded wonderful.
I began the book and it took me a moment to get acquainted with the characters, the setting, and the story. Once I did I fell in love with the story.
Set in a fantasy world we meet Remin of Andelin, A fierce fighter and son of known traitors. Remin knows his family was framed and he sets out to reclaim all that was taken from him. He is determined to rebuild his home and his name and to make the king pay for his treason and false accusations against his family. But Remin also knows that each gift the king grants comes with some sort of poison so when he marries Ophelle he can't help but think she too is poison.
Ophelle knows Remin is innocent as were his parents. She knows because her mother told her so. As the daughter of the king she wants to make up for what he has done to Remin but she doesn't know how having lived a life in seclusion and only knowing pain dn heartbreak. When she married Remin she believed she could help make up for what the king did but she doesn't understand that the problem goes so much deeper.
AS Reminad and Ophelle navigate their marriage they begin to build a life, to love, and to hopefully build trust. But can they truly trust when they have never truly been loved?
Watching these two characters grow and find a new beginning was wonderful. The characters, the creatures, and the story are wonderful and fantastic. The author has created such a wonderful fantasy world.
If I have one complaint is that she left me hanging. Yes, I know this is the first book but I so wanted the story to continue. Overall I enjoyed the book immensely and can't wait to continue with these characters in the next book.
