My Thoughts
In the second installment of the City of Legends series, Of Venom and Vengeance, author Eve Moore delivers a dark, spicy romance that proves people aren't always what they seem. While Elijah Washington may initially look like cold, calculated murder, that image shifts the moment his dimples appear, revealing a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts.
However, he remains a man of strict principles: he doesn’t share, he believes second chances are reserved for the afterlife, and you absolutely do not touch what belongs to him. Grappling with a devastating loss, Elijah struggles to reconcile the future he had envisioned with a grim new reality.
His perspective shifts when he crosses paths with a gorgeous, tattooed, motorcycle-riding bartender right here in Austin. This feisty, high-heeled lead brings a sense of humor and quick wit to the story that is impossible not to love. As Elijah begins to consider a path he never expected, he faces a desperate choice: can he leave his old life behind to forge a new ending, or will he only succeed in dragging her down into the darkness with him?
Performed in a seamless duet by Dani Soleil and John Masterson, the narration is exceptional. They perfectly capture the MMC’s transition from a protective "big teddy bear" to a man who will defend those he loves with his life. Though the book is divided into two parts and introduces a complex web of different antagonists, the central characters are so compelling they've already run away with my heart.
This dual-POV story is intended for a mature audience due to its explicit content and graphic violence, but it ultimately provides a satisfying HEA. With so many "bad guys" currently in play, the only question left is which direction the next book will take—will we follow Ada, Jax, or Marshall? Regardless of who is next, the chemistry and storytelling in this installment set a high bar for the rest of the series.
