Book Description

A Grumpy Loves Grumpy Romance

Lisa Tennent is the heiress of the "Tennent Surf Company" dynasty, and it's about to go under. Her father, the patriarch, has disappeared, her brother is a lazy HIMBO, her debutante mother is uninterested, and her uncle just mansplained her--again. None of them will right the sinking ship; she has to do it herself. Thankfully, Jason Mattis, the legendary "Zen Shredder," is back in Huntington Beach after twenty years and wants to help.

Ben's new brother-in-law, the three-time world champion surfer Jason Mattis, has just made Ben an offer he can't refuse. He'll work as his assistant, and Jason will pay off his debts. That includes saving his former sponsor "Tennent Surf Company" and Lisa Tennent, who is in a familiar emotional and mental health crisis. Ben knows about Lisa's frustration and anger and makes it his mission to be the friend and lover she needs. Only she doesn't know it yet.

"The Dasher" is a friends-to-lovers, single-father, over-40 romance sequel to "The Perpetual"-with GenX pop culture references and lessons in self-love as we age.

BIO: My writing journey began after my 50th birthday, and the pandemic lockdown provided the opportunity for me to write. Some of my stories have haunted my dreams for decades. When the characters shouted day and night, I knew I had to write about them. These days, I love to read and write stories with GenX characters over 40, later-in-life, mature, steamy romances.

My previous lives have been in advertising, fashion, and as a small business owner. I've made it my life’s ambition to overcome the challenges of dyslexia to read novels, poetry, and articles, and to tell my stories.

If you like romantic suspense like Catherine Cowels and" The Knockamount" series by Lucy Score--If you also like sexy humour, romcoms like Tessa Bailey, and Amy Dawes, AND--Small Town Romances like Melanie Harlow--you're going to love my stories.

My Thoughts

The Dasher, written by Cindy Kehagiaras, is a refreshing and mature friends-to-lovers romance that proves it is never too late for a second chance at happiness. Following the events of the prequel, The Perpetual, we once again meet Ben—an unlikely "cinnamon roll" hero sporting tattoos, a motorcycle, and a checkered past. Though he initially thinks he is out of Lisa Tennent’s league, he soon realizes they are two lonely souls brought together by fate.

As the heiress to the struggling Tennent Surf Company, Lisa is drowning in family drama. With a missing father, an indifferent mother, and a "himbo" brother, she is left to save the sinking ship alone. Enter Ben, who is hired to assist legendary surfer Jason Mattis in resurrecting the brand. Ben is a breath of fresh air; he accepts Lisa exactly as she is, providing the emotional support she doesn’t even know she needs while balancing his own life as a doting single father to his daughter, Chloe.

What makes this story truly shine is its focus on characters who are a bit more mature. As a woman in her thirties, I found the GenX pop culture references and the exploration of self-love as we age to be incredibly appealing. The "grumpy vs. grumpy" dynamic between Ben and Lisa is both hot and passionate, and it was wonderful to see Lisa trade her rigid lifestyle for a walk on the wild side.

I enjoyed this installment. The storyline feels more established and the execution is more refined, successfully blending professional stakes with a deeply personal journey toward healing. The narration elevates the experience further, featuring a talented multicast including Kristin James, Theo Sinclair, Heather Costa, and Jeffrey Kafer. Their duet-style performance brings a rich, cinematic layer to this "Zen Shredder" world.

By the time the story reaches its sunny conclusion on the beach, you’re left with a centered, calm feeling—much like Lisa herself—realizing that even the most unlikely pairings can lead to everlasting love.
