Book Description
Once upon a time, I thought he’d be my happily ever after. Now, I’m not sure I’ll survive his dark vendetta.
I’ll never be safe. My found family is as dangerous as the one I escaped. I need to run, but Luca Moretti has other plans. My family murdered his father, and he wants me to pay the price.
Kidnapped and trapped by the man I wanted as a lover but is now my enemy, I wait for him to break me like he broke my heart.
We’re a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. Except in our version, Romeo tries to kill Juliet.
LUCA
Desire. Obsession. Revenge. The end of my blood feud is within reach. And it starts with her.
The New England dons granted their blessing—if I play by the rules, vengeance is mine. One life for my father’s.
But blood demons need Sources, and as a capo, I need to earn. Even with the feds breathing down my neck.
Each day I dodge bullets and the law, she chips away at my walls until there’s nothing left but the truth. An unwanted truth that shatters my resolve to break Siobhán Connelly and instead make her mine.
About Katelyn Brehm
Katelyn Brehm writes steamy Paranormal and Mafia Romance with mature characters and contemporary settings deeply rooted in our real world. Kat is a second-generation German-American and native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When she's not reading and writing or working on her vintage Romance cover and stepback collection, she works as an aerospace engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Kat lives in Pasadena, California with her husband and two cats, Mini Wheat and Pepper.
My Thoughts
Katelyn Brehm has once again proven her mastery of the genre with His Dark Vendetta, a cinematically infused mafia revenge drama that manages to be just as captivating as its predecessor. This sequel returns us to a shadowy world where paranormal elements and high-stakes organized crime meet with incredible panache.
Despite the presence of blood demons and ancient feuds, there is a consistent groundedness to the story that makes every interaction feel gritty and real. It is a rich, complex narrative oozing with class, danger, and adrenaline, feeling very much like a Scorsese crime epic reimagined with a dark, supernatural Romeo and Juliet twist.
At the heart of the story is Luca, a blood demon consumed by a desperate need for vengeance following the murder of his father. Cast out and struggling with the weight of his own betrayal, Luca is a classic "trauma boy" whose heart still aches for Siobhán, the human woman he once loved. Their history is beautifully unspooled through sweet and fiery flashbacks that highlight a soul-deep connection.
Siobhán herself is a revelation—strong, feisty, and vulnerable all at once. As a woman over forty caught in the crossfire of her Irish family’s mafia links, she is desperate to wash her hands of the violence, only to be dragged back in by Luca’s dark plans. Their "star-crossed" push and pull is pure kismet, creating a slow-burn tension that eventually explodes into intense, page-turning chemistry.
The world-building remains a standout feature, particularly the way Brehm weaves in realistic touches like the struggles of first-generation immigrants and the authentic representation of disability. While the cast is large and the plot is a non-stop rush of blood and brutality, the characters remain distinct and purposeful. The story moves at a breakneck pace toward a cliffhanger of epic proportions that will certainly test the patience of anyone waiting for the third installment.
The audiobook experience is equally stellar, featuring top-tier narration by Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil. Snow’s deep, commanding presence perfectly captures Luca’s simmering rage and hidden vulnerability, while Soleil brings Siobhán’s fierce determination and wit to life with total authenticity.
Together, they elevate the emotional stakes of this unique paranormal-mafia hybrid, making it an absolute must-listen for fans of the series. This is a five-star roller coaster of emotion that leaves you breathless and begging for more.
