Grumpily Ever After by Teagan Hunter is an absolute delight of a rom-com that I found myself completely engrossed in from start to finish. Set against the beautiful, atmospheric backdrop of Washington State, the story introduces us to Odette Chambers, a wedding planner who seems to be followed by a streak of bad luck and ceremonial chaos.

Book Description

An obstinate ex–NHL player meets his match in a cheerfully resilient wedding planner prone to chaos in this sweet and spicy romantic comedy about game-changing second chances.

Wedding planner Odette Chambers has a knack for ruining every ceremony she touches. But her latest gig could be a curse breaker. The bride is her best friend, Izzy, and the venue is a local cidery with the Pacific Northwest mountains as a beautiful backdrop. The cidery’s only rotten apple is its owner, former NHL player Noah Stevens—Izzy’s older brother and a recently divorced, fully committed grump who doesn’t believe in happy endings.

But Noah can’t say no to his hopeful little sister. His decision sends Odette barreling into his life, and she insists on making picture-perfect renovations to his cidery. She’s demanding, irritatingly optimistic, and quite possibly the prettiest woman he’s ever seen. Noah is turning Odette’s head, too, but if she wants a wedding to finally go off without a hitch, he’s a handsome distraction she can’t afford. Right?

As Noah risks a second chance at love, Odette’s luck might change as well. For better or for worse.

About Teagan Hunter

TEAGAN HUNTER writes steamy romantic comedies with lots of sarcasm and a side of heart. She loves pizza, hockey, and romance novels, though not in that order. When not writing, you can find her watching entirely too many hours of Supernatural, One Tree Hill, or New Girl. She’s mildly obsessed with Halloween and prefers cooler weather. She married her high school sweetheart, and they currently live in the PNW.

My Thoughts

Grumpily Ever After by Teagan Hunter is an absolute delight of a rom-com that I found myself completely engrossed in from start to finish. Set against the beautiful, atmospheric backdrop of Washington State, the story introduces us to Odette Chambers, a wedding planner who seems to be followed by a streak of bad luck and ceremonial chaos.

Her latest project is her biggest test yet: planning her best friend Izzy’s wedding at a local cidery. The only catch is the venue's owner, Noah Stevens—Izzy’s older brother, a former NHL player, and a committed grump who has recently gone through a divorce and lost all faith in "happily ever afters."

The "grumpy/sunshine" dynamic between Odette and Noah is executed perfectly. Odette is irritatingly optimistic and resilient, determined to break her wedding curse by renovating the cidery into a picture-perfect venue. Noah, despite his best efforts to remain obstinate and closed-off, finds himself unable to say no to his sister or ignore the whirlwind of energy that is Odette.

Their interactions are filled with the kind of sharp banter and building tension that makes a romantic comedy truly sparkle. Watching Noah navigate the risk of a second chance at love while Odette fights to keep her focus on the wedding—despite how handsome her distraction has become—is both sweet and incredibly spicy.

The writing is fast-paced and addictive, striking a wonderful balance between humor and heart. Teagan Hunter crafts characters that feel genuine in their flaws and relatable in their desires, making it impossible not to root for Odette’s luck to finally change for the better. The Pacific Northwest setting adds a cozy, grounded feel to the story, making the cidery feel like a place you’d want to visit yourself.

The audiobook experience brings these characters to life through the performances of Chloe Ryan and Nelson Hobbs. Chloe Ryan captures Odette’s cheerful resilience beautifully, portraying the character's "chaos energy" with ease. Nelson Hobbs handles the gruff, ex-athlete persona of Noah with a very distinct style.

While the narration is a specific listening experience, the strength of the story and the undeniable chemistry between the leads make this a one-day binge. It is a refreshing tale of game-changing second chances that will leave you eager for the next installment in the series.
