Book Description
Winter break was supposed to be easy: one last trip with my best friends, a little snowboarding, maybe some hot cocoa spiked with something stronger. No drama, no strings.
Then my cabin got double-booked.
Enter Mira Winters—my childhood neighbor and crush. And somehow, the girl managed to get even prettier since the last time I saw her.
She’s got one problem: her family makes mine look like a walk in the park, and she’d rather fake a boyfriend than deal with their constant judgement.
Guess who she asks to step up? Yours truly.
It’s supposed to be for show. Hold her hand. Steal a kiss under the mistletoe. Pretend I’m head over heels for her.
Easy. Right?
Except the more we play this game, the more I want it to be real. And suddenly I’m less worried about the score her family is keeping and more about what happens when the week is over—because for the first time in a long time, I’m all in.
This Christmas, I don’t just want to win the game.
I want the girl.

My Thoughts
The Christmas Playbook by S. Massery and SJ Sylvis, and narrated by Rose Dioro and Lee Samuels, is a short, sweet, and incredibly fun Christmas novella that absolutely packs a punch. This spicy, fast-paced holiday story delivers on all the best tropes, making it the perfect read to get you into the holiday spirit.
The story kicks off when Rhys Anderson and Mira Winters, who were childhood neighbors, are unexpectedly double-booked in the same cabin for their Christmas vacation. Mira is trying to survive a family trip where she often feels like the forgotten child, and Rhys is there to spend time with his friends. The hotel mix-up forces them into close proximity, and when Mira's awful, judgmental family shows up—especially her terrible sister, Cammie—the former childhood crush and current "frostbite" quickly ask Rhys to step up and be her fake boyfriend.
The fake dating premise is simply delightful. It's supposed to be just for show—hold her hand, steal a kiss under the mistletoe, and ward off her family's constant judgment. Rhys, who checked all the boxes as a fake boyfriend, is wonderful, especially when he repeatedly stands up for Mira and tells her family exactly where they can stick it! However, as the week progresses and they are forced to spend time together, sparks fly, and they both realize this arrangement has never been fake. The more they play the game, the more Rhys wants it to be real, and for the first time in a long time, he's "all in."
This novella is a super cute and cozy forced proximity romance with the perfect amount of laughs and spice. The emotions in the story, ranging from cute bickering to deep feelings, were wonderfully brought out by the great narration from Rose Dioro and Lee Samuels, which added depth and emotion to the already delightful writing. I loved getting to see some of the past characters from the Shadow Valley U series in this companion novella and absolutely adored Mira and Rhys. If you need a fast, feel-good holiday romance, you need to grab this one!
