Book Description
It isn’t just small-town lore or neighborhood gossip—I’ve witnessed what happens when the men in my family get too comfortable and fall. And maybe that’s history now, but the responsibility to lead our family business and maintain our standing as the world’s most sought-after Kentucky bourbon is on my shoulders. Few others know the lengths I’ll go to ensure the safety of my business and family. Blurring morals and manipulating rules are all just part of the game.
There’s only one problem: Hadley Finch. My brother’s best friend, Fiasco’s small-town princess, an honorary part of my family, the daughter of a deplorable businessman—she’s the woman I swore to stay away from in a bargain I never wanted to make, and now . . . she’s my wife.
Hadley’s wild attitude and smart mouth have always been impossible to ignore. She’s the only person who pushes every last shred of my resolve. When she peels off her clothes, shares her desires, and uses a nickname that will be my undoing, the chaos that led us here falls away.
There are a decade's worth of secrets and lies between us, but if we can both get what we want—I’ll keep Foxx Bourbon, and she can escape the fallout from her father’s sins—then none of that matters.
Before she was mine, I was fine protecting her from afar. It’s never been about a happy ending or being her hero, but now, I crave both. Call it the Foxx curse or penance for my sins, but when all of it explodes and the lives of those I love are threatened, there are only two things I have left to bargain with: bourbon and proof.
About Victoria Wilder
Forever a hopeful romantic, author Victoria Wilder writes contemporary romance with deliciously witty and wild characters. Her stories range from small-town swoon-worthy men to fiercely powerful families and lead characters who aren't afraid to ask for what they want.
She's an east coast girl, always chasing the next season and living it up with her husband, two kiddos, and dog, Linus. When she's not reading or writing, you'll find her training at a kickboxing class or finding an excuse to sink her feet in the sand at the beach.
She believes in the power of a great story. And that a new pair of sneakers can be just as powerful as heels to put you in the right mood.
My Thoughts
From the very beginning, the deep-seated yearning between Hadley and Ace is palpable. They’ve known each other for years, but their undeniable connection has been repressed—until now. The tension is so thick you can feel it, making the slow-burn romance incredibly delicious. The witty banter and well-written dialogue between them feel effortless, pulling you into their complex dynamic.
Hadley Finch is a truly fantastic heroine. She is independent, strong, and unapologetically herself, never shrinking to fit anyone’s expectations. I loved that she didn’t wait around for Ace; she lived her life and owned it without guilt. She fights for what she wants with a steadfast big heart, and it's clear she was always meant to be a Foxx.
Ace Foxx is the grumpy, broody alpha we've been waiting for. I already loved him, but seeing his point of view on his family, business, and his all-consuming love for Hadley was everything. He is far more complex than he first appears, and everything he’s done to protect and provide for Hadley over the years is truly jaw-dropping. The way he slowly lets his guard down to let Hadley in is incredibly heartwarming.
This book is filled with banter, secrets, and a chemistry that will leave you breathless. The bedroom scenes are hot, but it's the lead-up—the years of repressed longing finally catching fire—that truly sizzles. As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed and plots come to light, tying up every loose end beautifully and giving readers the satisfaction of a complete and happy ending. The narration by Victoria Connolly and Sean Masters is a highlight of the audiobook, hitting your ears like smooth, warm bourbon.
This book is a love letter to the world Victoria Wilder has created. It provides a beautiful sense of closure while leaving you excited for what's next. A perfect 10/10. Do yourself a favor and experience the magic of Hadley and Ace and all the Foxx brothers.
