Susan Henshaw’s Here’s the Thing, narrated by Teralyn Davis and Brandon Francis, is a beautifully complex romance that is much more than a simple professor-student, age-gap story. It’s an emotional and addictive tale packed with secrets, suspense, and steamy moments.
Book Description
Nine years isn't that big of an age gap...unless you're grading her papers.
✓ Finish thesis
✓ Graduate (finally!)
✓ Figure out why my boyfriend of four years suddenly feels like the wrong puzzle piece
✗ Do not fall for Professor Dupree
Too bad my heart didn’t get the memo about that last one.
When my handsome thesis advisor suddenly bows out, I’m devastated.
My friends are right: these messy, intense feelings are not for my boyfriend of the past four years.
And I’m in major trouble.
Professor Dupree’s Professional Checklist:
✓ Grade midterms
✗ Stop noticing how beautiful your student is
✗ Maintain professional distance
✗ Do NOT become her best friend
✓ If all else fails, resign as thesis advisor
Good men don’t fall for students.
But apparently, I’m not the golden boy our small town thinks I am, because that’s exactly what I did.
I planned to wait until after her graduation to tell Tally how I felt.
Then she told me I was her person and everything changed.
Now, I have to figure out how to turn forbidden romance into a happily ever after. Because letting Tally go?
That’s not an option. Not anymore…
About Susan Henshaw
Callie Mae Shaw/Susan Henshaw is an Amazon Best-selling author and an unapologetic romantic who can’t stop seeing potential love stories everywhere—church potlucks, high school football games, even the soup aisle at her local grocery store.
She writes emotional, angsty romances about realistic, imperfect people fighting to protect their hearts, and a family whose love is so fierce, it feels like home.
When she’s not busy torturing fictional couples, she’s teaching fitness classes, bribing her teenager to eat real food, and checking her phone to see if her adult children have remembered she exists.
Her stories grow on a large patch of land in rural Virginia that feels like a dream—where fireflies dance through the night air, bullfrogs sing from the river, and the deer and bunnies are basically her coworkers.
My Thoughts
Susan Henshaw’s Here’s the Thing, narrated by Teralyn Davis and Brandon Francis, is a beautifully complex romance that is much more than a simple professor-student, age-gap story. It’s an emotional and addictive tale packed with secrets, suspense, and steamy moments.
The story follows Tally, a student who is blindsided when her handsome thesis advisor, Ashton Dupree, suddenly resigns. Their close friendship has always been strictly platonic, but her reaction makes her question if her feelings run deeper. To complicate matters, she has a boyfriend and feels like she's at a crossroads.
For Ashton, the lines have been blurred for a while. He knows a good man doesn’t fall for his student, but he can't ignore the strong feelings he has for Tally. He planned to wait until after she graduated to confess his feelings, but when she tells him he's "her person," everything changes. The intense attraction between them is undeniable, but Tally's back-and-forth emotions and the secrets she's hiding make a future together seem impossible.
The chemistry between Tally and Ashton is fantastic and completely addicting. The narration by Teralyn Davis and Brandon Francis is brilliant, bringing every moment to life, from the giddiness of a new relationship to the heartbreak of their complicated situation. Henshaw skillfully portrays their love story as it evolves, and the addition of a thrilling plot with clever twists will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is a must-read, and I can't wait to see what the author writes next!
