I absolutely devoured Summer People by Brittanee Nicole and Jenni Bara in a single sitting. This book is the perfect summer escape—a heartwarming and swoon-worthy story about healing, trust, and finding love in a charming small town.Book Description
A swoon-worthy romance novel set in the picturesque small-town charm of Monhegan, Maine, where a former child star seeks a second chance at life and love, only to be swept off her feet by a grumpy, handsome sheriff, his adorable niece, and a past that just won’t stay buried.
Monhegan, Maine: a picturesque island located twelve miles from the mainland.
Population: sixty-eight. Well, sixty-nine if you count Elizabeth Sweet, Monhegan’s newest resident and retired child star.
When Elizabeth steps off the boat, she’s ready to be charmed by the island that holds the sweetest memories from her childhood. A place so remote that even the relentless media wouldn’t think to follow her here. Instead, she’s met with nothing but exasperation.
“Summer people.” The words are muttered like a curse, almost a growl. No one seems particularly thrilled about her arrival, least of all the grumpy sheriff, who acts as if her presence is a personal offense.
Stupidly handsome and never seen without his loyal golden retriever, Bing, Sheriff Fisher Jones communicates mostly in grunts. Unfortunately for him, Elizabeth isn’t going anywhere. They’re neighbors, after all, and his niece, Sutton, like every other eight-year-old in America, is utterly obsessed with her.
Summer on Monhegan isn’t anything like Elizabeth expected, and neither is Fisher. She hasn’t figured out why he’s so surly, just as she isn’t ready to share what she’s running from.
But as the days pass, Elizabeth finds the islanders burrowing deeper into her heart. And Fisher may not be far behind. Still, it might all be for nothing if her past finally catches up with her. Because, in the end, she might be destined to be nothing more than one of the summer people.

My Thoughts
I absolutely devoured Summer People by Brittanee Nicole and Jenni Bara in a single sitting. This book is the perfect summer escape—a heartwarming and swoon-worthy story about healing, trust, and finding love in a charming small town.
The story follows former child star Elizabeth "Libby" Sweet, who escapes to the tiny island of Monhegan, Maine, to hide from her past. She’s immediately met with skepticism from the locals, especially the grumpy (and very handsome) sheriff, Fisher Jones. He wants nothing to do with "summer people," but as neighbors with his adorable niece connecting them, their lives quickly become tangled.
This book truly has it all. The grumpy/sunshine romance between Libby and Fisher is perfection, filled with witty banter and a delicious slow-burn tension. A compelling mystery runs through the story, adding a layer of suspense that will keep you guessing.
The audiobook version is a must-listen, brought to life by a full cast that makes the story feel like a movie. Connor Crais is the perfect growly Fisher, and Samantha Brentmoor captures Libby’s hopeful spirit beautifully. The entire production is simply brilliant.
Bottom line: Summer People is a standout romance. It’s a fantastic story with a swoon-worthy love story, a compelling mystery, and a perfect audiobook cast. If you love romances with both heart and heat, you need to read this book.
