Book Description

Midhat Malik is an accomplished go-getter living her best millennial life in Toronto – perfect job, perfect condo, perfect fiancĂ©…

Until he dumps her with no warning. Before she knows it, she’s back in her hometown of Karachi, where it seems everyone is dying to set her up with the “perfect man.” From her marriage-obsessed mom and meddling grandmother to her conniving aunts and well-meaning but manipulative cousins, the pressure is on.

Heartbroken and disillusioned, Midhat is sure she’d never find a perfect man again. But then she finds one… and then another… and another! How will she choose between the four – four! – eligible bachelors vying for her hand and heart? How do you find The One when you can only meet men through rishta setups in your parents’ drawing room? Is it even possible to fall in love in Karachi at the age of 26? Does the guy who meets Midhat’s ridiculously stringent “halal-to-haram ratio” even exist?

Set against the bustling backdrop of 2015 Karachi, Love Squared is Mehreen Jabbar meets Jane Austen, combining classic Pakistani drama with a romantic comedy twist.

About Ambreen Khan

Ambreen Khan is an IT consultant by day and a wannabe writer by night, living with her husband and daughter in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. After her family, her greatest loves are Pakistan and storytelling. Love Squared, her debut novel, reflects these passions, exploring themes of family, faith, and romance while navigating the balance between tradition and modern life.

She’s wildly obsessed with the storytelling magic of Mehreen Jabbar dramas, Imtiaz Ali movies, Panchayat, The Office, and This Is Us, aspiring to one day write with the same rawness, beauty, and depth in capturing the human experience. Her best days either involve hiking in the mountains for hours or curling up on her very comfy couch, watching K-dramas and anything her beloved Ava recommends.

In an alternate reality, Ambreen would be a history professor by day and an author of historical fiction set in the era of Muslim Spain by night.

My Thoughts

As a travel agent and passionate reader, my superpower is finding the perfect book for any journey. For your next lazy vacation, I have a phenomenal recommendation: Love Squared by Ambreen Khan.

I was instantly hooked by this heartfelt and hilarious story. It follows Midhat Malik, a millennial whose perfect Toronto life is upended when her fiancĂ© dumps her, sending her back to her family in Karachi. There, she’s thrown into the whirlwind of modern dating and family setups, navigating the pressures of finding "The One" from a pool of four very different bachelors.

The character development is so brilliant that I felt a real connection to everyone in the story, pulling an all-nighter just to see how it ended. For any '90s kid who loves a great romantic comedy, this book is a must-read. It perfectly captures the Pakistani-Canadian experience with a wonderful blend of humor and heart. It felt so relatable that I highly recommend you grab a copy to enjoy yourself on your next trip or just chilling by the pool on a summer day.
