From the very first page of the prologue, I was utterly captivated. I couldn't "turn the page" fast enough! Cold, arrogant, and detached, Matteo was determined to keep his distance from innocent Sofiya. I found myself smirking, knowing his carefully laid plans were about to unravel, and I was not disappointed! Sofiya absolutely smashed through his control, and I devoured every moment of it.
Sofiya is absolute perfection. Despite a lifetime of being beaten down, she possesses an admirable inner strength and unshakeable optimism. Her POV chapters offer such a well-researched and thoughtful glimpse into the challenges people with disabilities face daily. She's a gentle soul with a fierce will, incredibly sassy, and utterly lovable. There are moments when she wants to give up, but Sofiya always finds the light, always finds a reason to keep fighting.
Matteo is the perfect blend of ruthless Don and a softie – only for her. He’s unintentionally hilarious, making me laugh out loud with his internal monologues. Their banter and chemistry are off the charts, making you feel utterly giddy.
The story hits you with unexpected angst that truly broke my heart in certain scenes. The drama that unfolds is expertly crafted, showcasing how truly badass Sofiya becomes in the second half. The climax is absolutely fantastic, and a special shoutout to the beautiful bond between Sofiya and Angelo (her amazing service animal, Noodle, who truly stole the show!). As someone who has read countless books with service animals, it's rare to see one depicted with such accuracy and love. Everything in this book is just so well done. The characters are lovable and relatable, the plot is interesting and dynamic, and the spice is absolutely spicing.
And speaking of perfection, the narration by Teddy Hamilton and Lee Daniels is spot-on. Teddy Hamilton never ceases to amaze me with his talent; I was completely immersed in his performance from beginning to end. Lee Daniels complements him beautifully, bringing Sofiya's vulnerability and strength to life. Their combined efforts make this an audio experience not to be missed.
Trust me, if you love Mafia romance with depth, heart, and undeniable heat, you absolutely do not want to miss out on His Tesoro. It's truly an amazing book!
