My Thoughts
The story kicks off with a phone call that shatters Aspen's reality, unveiling secrets about her past and prompting a dramatic move from Oklahoma to New York with her ten-year-old son, Tuck, for a fresh start. Enter Callan, the New York Blaze's focused center iceman, whose life was similarly upended, leaving him determined to avoid any and all complications. Of course, fate has other plans, and a series of chance encounters repeatedly throws these two together, turning their worlds delightfully upside down.
The banter between Aspen and Callan is simply fantastic, sparkling with wit and undeniable chemistry. Wages masterfully teases out Callan’s past, revealing the tragic loss that shaped him. Witnessing Aspen, whom Callan lovingly calls his "Angel," pull him from the depths of his grief is incredibly moving. His journey of confronting his past and rediscovering joy is deeply relatable and genuinely heartwarming.
Aspen's own struggles with feelings of being unlovable, stemming from her father's abandonment and her ex-partner leaving her a single mom, resonate deeply. Her reluctance to fall for Callan is palpable, but his unwavering love and care for Tuck are what ultimately melt her defenses. The relationship that blossoms between Callan and Tuck is genuinely heartwarming – a true "chosen family" dynamic that will make your heart swell. Callan’s consistent reassurance that he will never leave Aspen and Tuck is beautifully portrayed, allowing Aspen to finally embrace the love she deserves.
And for those who appreciate it, the spice in this book is pure perfection. Callan's dominant yet incredibly sweet and attentive nature is intoxicating. His dedication, even doing "research" by reading Aspen's fantasy books, showcases his desire to truly please her. His philosophy of being "the boss in the bedroom" while she's the boss at work adds a delicious layer to their dynamic.
Fall Wherever They May is pure gold. Elysia Wages has penned a phenomenal standalone novel that sets a high bar for the rest of The Blaze Hockey Series. Brandon Francis and Leanne Blade's narration breathes incredible life into every character, making this a truly immersive and unforgettable experience. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment!
