Book Description
Blood hides carnal desires. Power is overrated.
Killing for family, tainted with nothing but love...
My emotions are supposed to be dead.
I was never meant to feel this. Pain. Anger. Rage. Feelings erode me from the inside.
They make me weak. They make him more powerful.
But I can't lose.
Dante is my sweetness in hell. My father has me where he wants me. And my boys...well they think I'm all but lost.
They're right. I'm not the same Angel of Death they knew before and desired. I'm losing control one promise at a time. I'm spiraling, de-evolving, turning into him.
But in the end, I need no one.
Pain, torture, and torment.
Is the only way to be monstrous.
I've known it all along.
Haven't you?
About Mallory Fox
Mallory Fox is a USA Today best-selling author who loves to write deliciously dark romance with heart and stories that have wicked, twisty plots, tainted-love, and all kinds of angsty redemption.
Mallory/Lea is addicted to canines, chocolate-covered pretzels, and lives in London with her bean-shaped dog and the rest of her non-furry family. When she's not at her Mac writing up a storm, she's walking her overgrown cocker spaniel or trying to learn how to cook, badly.

My Thoughts
Narrated brilliantly by Hannah Hedley and Lucas Webley, Mallory Fox's A Promise of Torment is a wild, bloody ride from start to finish. While a few days have passed since I finished, my initial impression holds strong: this audiobook is a blast for anyone who loves dark romance.
The story plunges you headfirst into the action with Viola, who is unapologetically feral. She’s a feisty, 23-year-old assassin, and the story immediately sets a brutal tone by opening with her castrating a victim. Despite her murderous ways, I found her captivating. The premise of her going undercover in a high school had a fun, Never Been Kissed vibe, but with a deliciously violent twist that made watching her work a genuine thrill.
Of course, a reverse harem is only as good as its men, and this book delivers. The guys—Lorcan, Dino, and Jude—are all compelling characters. However, Dante was the standout for me. He’s a constant in Viola’s chaotic life, matching her cold, clinical demeanor while showing he cares in his own unique way. He doesn't baby her, which is a refreshing dynamic. The narrators do a fantastic job giving each character a distinct voice, making their interactions with Viola sizzle.
The plot moves at a breakneck pace, though I did find there was a bit of a leap near the end where all the boys suddenly move in with Viola; the transition felt slightly abrupt. Furthermore, be warned: the story ends on a major cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the next installment.
Overall, despite a slightly rushed plot point and a nail-biting ending, A Promise of Torment was an incredibly enjoyable listen. If you're looking for a dark romance with a truly feisty heroine and a group of guys who can handle her, I highly recommend diving into this world.
