Book Description
Hop Around is a travel and adventure journey about a playful group of half-bunny, half special animal friends who take us around the world where we learn new customs, culture, cuisine and art. The symbolism of every animal being half bunny is the author, Shvona Chung’s way of infusing a multi-racial, multi-cultural dynamic where children of diverse cultures and races feel seen and heard.
Hop Around teaches children the importance of traveling while appreciating and immersing themselves into the newness of another country.
The hoppers take us away on the magical uni-carriage to South Korea, where we meet Goomi. Goomi is multi racial herself and the inspiration for Hop Around-she is Shvona’s daughter. This story came to life when Shvona realized she wanted to share her love of travel with her daughter. “I want to be responsible for exposing children to the beauty of traveling and how life changing it can be” says Chung.
Join us on a magical ride. Get ready to learn, tour and grow!

My Thoughts
Shvona Chung's "Hop Around" is a charming and insightful picture book that invites young readers on an exciting global adventure. This beautifully crafted story introduces a playful group of "hoppers"—unique half-bunny, half-animal friends—who travel the world in their magical "uni-carriage." Through their journeys, children learn about new customs, vibrant cultures, delicious cuisines, and fascinating art from different countries.
A standout feature of "Hop Around" is its brilliant symbolism. By making each character a blend of a bunny and another animal, Chung subtly but powerfully highlights our multi-racial and multi-cultural world. This thoughtful choice helps children from diverse backgrounds feel seen and included, fostering a sense of belonging. The inaugural trip takes readers to South Korea, where they meet Goomi, a multi-racial character inspired by Chung's own daughter.
This book is incredibly engaging, making learning about the world feel like a game. The colorful illustrations draw you in, making you feel like you're right there with the hoppers, exploring new places and trying new things.
More than just a fun read, "Hop Around" is an inclusive and inspiring journey. It’s designed to spark a love for travel and cultural understanding in young hearts, making it a truly special addition to any child's bookshelf.
